Georgia’s policy rules shape how UM pays. Where an insurer combines the required coverages into one single limit, any deductible selected is combined, and the resultant total is construed to be a single aggregate deductible (O.C.G.A. \u00a7 33-7-11<\/a>). You can also reject the coverage in writing, and any insured named in the policy may do so, so check what you signed. O.C.G.A. \u00a7 33-7-11<\/a> reads: “The coverage required under paragraph (1) of this subsection excludes umbrella or excess liability policies unless affirmatively provided for in such policies or in a policy endorsement.”<\/p>\n

Start with your declarations page. It lists your UM and UIM limits and shows whether you have medical payments coverage. The Georgia insurance regulator’s auto resources explain that UM coverage may protect you when an uninsured driver causes the accident.<\/p>\n
